Kay Lipton at the Vernissage
The Commissaire d'Exposition wrote in the Art Catalogue of Kay's major exhibition in Toulouse France in May, 1996:-
`THE SKY, SEA, THE EARTH, AND ME IN AUSTRALIA: KAY LIPTON – AN EXTRAORDINARY LIFE '
"Kay Lipton has captured the very essence of Australia in her diverse works portraying her unique experiences derived from this country. She trained at the Central School of Art and St.Martin’s School of Art in London. She has exhibited widely around the world, travelling extensively in Europe, U.S.A , Canada, and East Africa One of her first appointments as a resident artist was with the British High Commission in Uganda, East Africa.
She painted eight murals for the Entebbe Airport and won a Caltex Art Prize during her eight years residency there, with her husband and family. Her husband was a senior lecturer at Makerere Medical School, Kampala. When in Africa, she discovered the art of wax-resist batik on cotton, being created there by the African women, using vegetable dyes. She took up this art-form and took it to a new dimension, using fast dyes on pure silk." |
